Summary
The Engineer ensures that the vessel is operated safely and according to company policy. The engineer makes sure that all equipment is in good working order and follows the service manual recommendations. To achieve this, the engineer keeps service manuals in a good condition. He/she is responsible for repairs and maintenance of all systems on the boat, such as engine, generators, water-makers, compressors & nitrox system, showers, kitchen equipment, bathroom utilities, lighting and air con etc. The Engineer supervises the Second Engineer and any other crew members that are called to assist with engineering or maintenance duties. The team will work in shifts to ensure there is an engineer monitoring shipboard systems at all times. He/she reports to the captain.
Job Responsibilities
- Identify, inspects, monitors and maintains critical systems such as engines, generators, emergency pumps etc.
- Manages and maintains water making systems according to the manufacturer’s guidelines
- Conducts all required checks such as: pre-cruise checks, maintenance checks, emergency pump checks etc.
- Completes all relevant documentation, such as service logs including a description of work carried out and parts used, and engine logs / running hours
- Manages parts and levels of stock, such as oil, consumables, spare/replacement parts and completes relevant documentation
- Ensures all tools and equipment are in sound condition and stored correctly
- Ensures all procedures related to engineering, repairs, maintenance and safety are followed
- Manages the engineering team
- Performs other duties as directed

- Overall appearance rating in the surveys is Very Good or above
- Cost management - efficient servicing and maintenance within budget
- Engine room logs complete after every trip
- Boat crew rating in the surveys is Very Good or above
Skills, Competencies and Experience
Required
- Proven previous experience as an Engineer for at least 2 years
- Professional rating
- Basic English
- Teamwork
- Good work ethic
- Numeracy (managing and ordering spare parts)
- Organisational and problem solving skills
- Knowledge of health and safety principles and procedures
- Physical strength and stamina - ability to lift, push and pull as required
Preferred
- Great customer service skills
- Non-smoker
- STCW 2010 AB2010
Working Hours
Working hours follow the provisions of the MLC 2006, yet may be irregular.
Work Experience Requirements:
All applicants must have previous experience in working on cruise ships or yachts matching the following requirements:
- Yacht sizes: 40-49m
- Yacht types: motor
- Experience length: min 1 year
Language Requirements:
Good knowledge of the English language is required.
Certificates and Qualifications:
A valid STCW Basic Safety Training certificate is required from all applicants. Please sign up for an STCW course and obtain the certificate if you don't have it yet.
