We are looking for a talented Chef to join this fascinating 80m Research Vessel.  The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude and work well in a team.  You must be happy to work long hours and be willing to go the extra mile to adapt to the special demands of a research vessel.  Organizational skills and the ability to conduct tasks independently and to a high professional
standard are a must.  Previous work experience on cruise ships and/or Yachts would be an advantage.

Job Description:

  • 1 Head-Chef and 1 Chef are together catering for 24 crew plus 20 Scientist
  • Chefs are reporting to the Purser
  • Chefs are assisted by 2 Stewardesses
  • Meals are being served in 1 Mess Room (Crew and Scientists eating together)
  • Occasional BBQs and VIP events
  • We expect a healthy and variety rich menu – new ideas welcome
  • Good per head food budget available
  • Chefs are expected to plan the provisioning themselves and do the provision
    orders and/or direct shopping
  • Chefs are expected to work within a given budget and to account for it
    (controlled by the Purser)
  • Large well equipped galley and bakery
  • Sufficient provision storage space
  • Chefs are responsible for keeping the galley and provision storage areas clean
    at all times
  • The ship is at times for up to 35 consecutive days at sea

General Requirements for all crew:

  • Valid STCW Basic Safety Training
  • Valid seafarers medical fitness cert. (ENG1 or equivalent)
  • Person Designated with Security Duties Certificate
  • Good knowledge of the English languageUS Visa (B1/B2) or US-Citizen or Canadian Citizen

Leave: 10 weeks on / 10 weeks off

Start date: 18. December 2017 in Apia/Samoa

Interviews for the shortlisted candidates will be held in the week commencing 20th November

Please note:

  • Drug test will be done on first day of employment
  • Background check will be done prior to employment

Work Experience Requirements:

All applicants must have previous experience in working on a Yacht.

Language Requirements:

Good knowledge of the English language is required.

Certificates and Qualifications:

A valid STCW Basic Safety Training certificate is required from all applicants. Please sign up for an STCW course and obtain the certificate if you don't have it yet.
