Magnitude Recruitment is seeking an experienced and proactive Chief Engineer to join a 55m+ private motor yacht.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong engineering professional who is confident managing all aspects of the vessel's engineering department while maintaining the highest standards of safety, reliability, and operational efficiency. The successful candidate will be hands-on, organised, and capable of supporting a busy owner programme while fostering a positive and professional onboard environment.

2/2 rotation, EUR Salary

Key Requirements

  • Previous experience as Chief Engineer onboard motor yachts of a similar size preferred
  • Relevant Chief Engineer certification appropriate to vessel operation
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, HVAC, and auxiliary systems
  • Experience managing planned maintenance systems and engineering budgets
  • Proven troubleshooting and fault-finding ability
  • Experience overseeing contractors, surveys, and shipyard periods
  • Strong leadership and crew management skills
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Valid STCW certification and ENG1 (or equivalent)
  • Fluent English required

Engineering Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of all engineering systems onboard
  • Management of the vessel's engine room and technical spaces
  • Ensuring all machinery, equipment, and systems are maintained to the highest standard
  • Planning and executing preventative and corrective maintenance schedules
  • Monitoring fuel, water, lubrication, and consumable usage
  • Managing engineering inventories, spare parts, and technical budgets
  • Liaising with the Captain regarding technical operations and maintenance planning
  • Supervising and coordinating contractors, service engineers, and shipyard works
  • Maintaining all engineering records, certificates, and compliance documentation
  • Ensuring full compliance with Flag State, Class, ISM, ISPS, and MLC requirements
  • Leading emergency response procedures relating to engineering and technical incidents
  • Supporting owner and guest operations while ensuring minimal disruption to onboard experience
