Nurse/Companion – Belgium & Portugal

Silver Swan is urgently seeking a compassionate, experienced Nurse/Companion to support our client, who recently suffered a stroke. While he is able to move independently, he requires attentive and skilled assistance with daily activities including dressing, personal care, gentle supervision, and encouragement for mobility and cognitive engagement.

You will be joining a household with existing concierge and cleaning support during weekdays, but this specialized role focuses solely on his personal care and wellbeing.

Please Note: Candidates must hold an EU passport prior to applying as, unfortunately, we do not offer visa sponsorship. If you do not hold an EU passport upon applying, your application will NOT be considered. 

Responsibilities:

• Assist with morning routines: waking up, showering, shaving, body care, and dressing
• Provide attentive supervision to ensure safety, as he can be intermittently absentminded
• Encourage and accompany him on daily walks (minimum 45 minutes in the park)
• Support daily activities including reading, receiving visitors, and engaging with his schedule
• Monitor his wellbeing throughout the day and respond calmly to any unexpected cognitive changes
• Assist with meal routines as needed (he is able to eat independently)
• Provide companionship and emotional support
• Maintain clear communication with the family regarding his condition and any concerns
• Manage occasional travel with him to Portugal (July & August) and weekend trips to the Ardennes
• Run errands when needed

Ideal Candidate: 

• Must hold an EU passport
• Holds a Driving License 
• Proven experience in personal care, ideally with stroke or neurological recovery patients
• Reliable, loyal, friendly, empathetic, dynamic, and skilled
• References from previous employers, with the ability to provide contact details
• Physically capable of accompanying the Principal on walks and supporting his mobility needs
• Excellent observational skills and patience to manage unpredictable cognitive lapses
• Comfortable living on-site in a private apartment above the house

Package:

• Salary between €3,000 and €5,000  Net per month DOE
• Private apartment provided within the home
• Temporary contract starting for one month with the possibility of renewal
