Overview

Our client is seeking a highly organised, experienced, and capable Domestic Couple (House Manager and Housekeeper/Cook) to care for their stunning Grade II estate spanning over 100 acres, and overlooking picturesque gardens and lakes.

The Principals travel for approximately six months of the year, so the Domestic Couple must be adaptable to changing routines. They will manage the estate during the Principals’ absence and provide comprehensive support when the family is in residence.

This position is ideal for a couple seeking a long-term role, as the previous couple held the position for over four years.

Job duties
Responsibilities of the Domestic Couple (House Manager and Housekeeper/Cook) near Newbury, Berkshire, include:

House Manager

• Provide high-quality personal service to the Principals and guests, including serving meals, drinks, and attending to their personal needs
• Maintain an accurate inventory of all wines, updating records with new acquisitions and removals
• Develop and maintain a schedule for regular maintenance of the property, both internal (plumbing, electrical, HVAC) and external (gardens, pools, exterior structures)
• Liaise with and oversee contractors and service providers, ensuring work is completed to high standards and within budget
• Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and shine for household items, including silverware, glassware, and decorative objects
• Oversee the security of the property, including monitoring surveillance systems and conducting regular checks
• Ensure all vehicles are regularly serviced, cleaned, and in good working order

Housekeeper/Cook

• Responsibility for the family cooking, including occasional lunch and dinner parties
• Cleaning of silver
• Maintain the cleanliness and organisation of the main house and outbuildings
• Management of the indoor and outdoor swimming pool
• Handle laundry, bed making, and light fabric reparations
• Manage household purchases and running errands
• Drive and provide transportation, as and when required

Candidates must be/have:

• Proven experience in a similar Private Household role, working within house management, housekeeping and maintenance
• Have the right to work in the UK / hold UK Passports
• Strong organisational and multitasking skills
• Professional, discreet, and able to maintain confidentiality
• Excellent communication skills and a friendly, welcoming demeanour
• Valid driving licences

Accommodation
A renovated two-bedroom staff cottage will be provided.

Hours
Monday – Friday with occasional weekends.

Hours are 08:00 – 13:00 and then 15:00 – 18:00.

Schedule can vary depending on when the Principals are in residence.
