Overview

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and competent Live-in Housekeeper for their beautiful period property near Salisbury.

The residence is a weekend getaway with occasional extended stays during Christmas and summer periods. The Principals enjoy entertaining guests, often hosting gatherings, shoot weekends, and summer get-togethers. The Housekeeper will play a crucial role in maintaining the property’s standards while accommodating the informal lifestyle of the household.

The successful individual will not only possess exceptional housekeeping skills but also understand the unique challenges and requirements associated with maintaining a historic property.

Please note, the hours are likely to extend to full time over the summer and beyond, to accommodate renovations, entertaining, and running errands, with compensation adjusted accordingly.

Job duties:
Responsibilities of the Live-in Housekeeper near Salisbury include:

• Thorough cleaning of all living spaces, including bedrooms, bathrooms and the kitchen
• Dusting of all areas, including high ceilings, and vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping of floors
• Changing bed linens and making beds
• Carrying out light maintenance, such as changing light bulbs
• Repairs and garment maintenance
• Flower arranging
• Cleaning cars and occasional driving / running errands
• Occasional care of the Principal’s three dogs

Candidate must be/have:

• Experience working with fine furnishings, silverware, art, and antiques
• Knowledge of proper care techniques for preserving valuable items
• Prior experience working in a heritage home, understanding issues such as dust, ageing, and specific care needs for stone flooring, wood parquet, etc
• Good health and physical fitness, as this is crucial due to the size of the property
• Experience with fine fabrics and expertise in handwashing garments, including silks and cashmere
• Basic sewing skills for repairs and garment maintenance
• A valid driving licence
• A fluent English speaker
• Cooking skills
• A love of dogs

Accommodation and benefits
Separate entrance apartment with a storage room, entrance hall, bathroom, double bedroom, and large open-plan kitchen/sitting room (furnished or unfurnished options available)
Use of onsite car.
20 days of holidays, plus time off in lieu for bank holidays worked

Hours
30 hours. Ideally Tuesday/Wednesday off, with flexibility for weekend duties.
