Captain - 80ft Sportfishing boat - Southern California

This is an 80ft Viking based in Southern California. (United States)

This is a family program, with 50% focused on fishing (sportfishing) and 50% on cruising. The family enjoys recreational fishing and cruising. Despite decades of fishing, the family is new to pelagic fishing. Currently the boat does not tournament fish, but may do so in a few years.

Captain Requirements:

• Full - time, Coast Guard licensed with minimum of 5 years of experience
• Excellent references (minimum of 3 previous employers)
• Expert in navigation, safety, mechanical issues
• Proficient saltwater fisherman
• Excellent oral communication skills with owner, guests, and crew
• Excellent teacher/coach family on all aspects of boat ownership and fishing.
• Proficient in maintaining and troubleshooting IT related issues (DirecTV, internet access)
• Able to follow a budget and track expenses
• Has a positive attitude
• Professional and clean appearance, grooming, and demeanor

Job Description (50% fishing, 50% cruising)

• Responsible for all aspects of navigation, safety, maintenance and cleaning inside and outside of vessel
• Responsible for provisions and prepping the vessel for trips.
• Responsible for purchasing tackle and gear with owner’s input
• Responsible for prepping gear, tackle and bait for fishing trips
• Responsible for obtaining local real-time fishing knowledge for float plan
• Responsible for ensuring owner and guests are treated well both on fishing days and cruising days
• Responsible to ensure proper operation of the satellite phone, internet access, Directv and A/V equipment is working
• Teaches family about safe operation, navigation, fixing mechanical issues and fishing techniques.
• Recruit,retain, and mentor mates
• Adheres to monthly budget, and reviews expenses at monthly operational meeting with owner
• Ideally, the captain and crew have cooking skills.
• Represents the boat well in port and at sea
