  • Immediate Start (with handover)
  • 2.5 months (with possibility for extension)
  • $7000-8000 US / month
  • No ticket required (but an engineer at the MEOL or Y4 skill level).

The yacht is looking ideally for a permanent engineer but due to the short notice will also consider a temporary engineer for an approx. 2 to 2.5 months duration.
The boat is a 31m (102ft) – Explorer Motor Yacht, built in 2015, 244 GT, Cayman Island Registry. The vessel is a large volume deep draft, displacement motor yacht with 7 full-time crew; Captain, 1st Mate/Dive Instructor, Deck Hand, Chief Engineer, Chief Stew, Second Stew and Chef. For owners trips we are also normally operating with another crew member onboard (Divemaster).

On this boat you have to be flexible and work as a team. This is a hands on boat where you will be required to do a variety of jobs onboard and not just engineering duties e.g. tender driving, anchoring, navigational watches, helping with guests and water sports. However, the main responsibility is making sure that all equipment onboard, including both tenders (10m McMullen & Wing - 5.3 tonne, with Twin Yanmar Diesels that we tow, plus a 5.8m (Novurania 19ft Case Tender with Twin Volvo Penta Diesel inboard engines) are maintained and running. This job requires you to be able to work unsupervised and take instructions form the Captain and carry them out without any issues.
You would need to able to join the boat in Costa Rica on the 2nd / 3rd August where you will do a hand over with my current engineer who will leave on 6th August. The current engineer has been for onboard as chief engineer for 3 years so knows the boat very well and you will have a good handover. We will have one trip to Cocos Island, with the trip departing on the 8th August.

After the Cocos Island trip there may be another guest trip in Costa Rica and we will then proceed through the Panama Canal to Fort Lauderdale where we will do a 6 week shipyard period and then get the boat ready for the FLIBS boat show. There is a possibility that this may change and we go to a shipyard on the West Coast of the US eg San Diego.

The crew is very close and get along well. There are a variety of nationalities onboard from New Zealand, Mexico, US and UK. Being a 31m vessel with 7 crew the cabin space is not the biggest so you will have to be happy to share a small space with one other crewmember.

If you don’t have a good sense of humor and are not prepared to work as a team member and help out if required with a variety of duties when required, then this is not the boat for you.

The ideal candidate should meet the minimum following requirements.

  • Must be fluent in English with good very communication skills
  • Hold a valid B1/B2 Visa
  • Hold a valid STCW Basic Safety Training certificate.
  • Hold a Valid ENG1 Maritime medical or approved equivalent.
  • No engineer ticket required and will be hiring on experience, but someone at the MEOL or Y4 level
  • Have good engineering knowledge and experience.
  • Ideally also have experience in navigation watch standing.

Start- Costa Rica on Friday 2nd / Saturday 3rd August.

Salary- will be dependent on qualifications and experience and will be in the range of US$7,000 -$8,000 per month, pro-rated on a daily basis if employed as a temporary position.
I am the relief captain and I will be here until approx mid-September/end of September when the permeant captain whom was onboard during the build of the boat returns. The permanent captain is currently in New Zealand and will also be monitoring these emails and will be involved in the employment process
