2007 ABD aluminum 93’ expedition yacht, represents a good career opportunity for anyone seeking to crew on a professional, high quality, well-maintained yacht with an adventurous cruising plan.  The owners previously owned a Privilege 615 sailing cat for three years and cruised extensively in the Caribbean, Virgin Islands, Bahamas and Cuba.  Prior, they chartered large yachts in wide ranging areas for over fifteen years and plan to manage this yacht to those same high standards.

flagged in Jamaica and carries a Private Yacht registration.  The boat is currently in San Diego, CA, undergoing an extensive yard period for paint, new genset and many upgrades, and a complete review and rebuild (as needed) of all systems in anticipation of a multi-year Pacific cruise.  The end of November we will move to Panama for one or two trips in the Perlas Islands beginning December 26.  After Panama we may do one trip in the Galapagos, then passage to the Marquesas and spend most of the rest of 2018 in the islands of French Polynesia.  Cruising plans for 2019 and beyond are still in development, but will include visiting as many island groups as practical, and eventually ending in New Zealand and Australia in late 2020 or early 2021.  During this Pacific cruise we will be remote and spend much of the time on anchor; at dock in a marina will thus be understandably limited.

During the past cruising seasons we and our guests (typically 2 couples; occasionally 3) have been on board for 12-15 weeks per year.  We have done very limited chartering and don’t expect that to change, although might be used a few weeks per year for charitable and/or research trips.  We use the boat as much as our schedule allows.  Trip lengths in the Caribbean were generally a week to ten days, but we anticipate future trips will be longer (probably two weeks per trip) given the longer travel time to and from the boat.

We plan to use the boat extensively and cover a lot of territory and are active when on board with diving, kiteboarding, snorkeling, etc.  Anyone interested in the position has to be prepared for and welcome that high level of activity, and for the owners being on board more than typical.  Further, as an independent private yacht, the crew has to manage all aspects of the boat’s operations; there is no material distinction between time when guests are on board and maintenance and preparation time when not.  As support, we will maintain and manage the boat to the highest standards practical, provide many accounting services, and we help out with boat operations when we are on board as hosting time allows.

General Requirements

For all crew, the first priority is always the safety of the boat and all people on board.  Captain and all crew members must have at least basic level First Aid training.

Operates efficiently with a crew of four, but that by necessity requires a team effort in most all ship’s operations; everyone pitches in where and when needed, and everyone is host to all on board.  While as a private use yacht we are more casual than what would be expected on a large yacht charter, we still provide a comfortable level of guest services.  Service guidelines are established and part of the ship’s Operations Manual.

The current crew requirement is for a couple engineer + stewardess team to accompany the captain & chef team

Crew quarters are 2 cabins, each with en suite heads with separate showers (no wet heads); one with queen bed, one with bunks.  There is also a large crew mess with full galley.

Engineer:

Ideally, Engineer would have a similar license to Captain, although that’s not a requirement.  Engineer must have extensive engineering experience on comparable boats and be proficient in all aspects of boat operations and handling, including watch-keeping and navigation.

Engineer is primarily responsible for maintaining all boat systems, including normal maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, upgrades and record keeping.  Engineer must be familiar with all boat systems and perform the majority of the required maintenance and repair work, including sourcing needed spares, parts and supplies.  It is understood that outside assistance may be needed from time-to-time and Engineer and Captain will plan, supervise and approve all work done by non-crew personnel.

In addition, Engineer must be able to assist Captain in the operation of the boat in terms of boat handling in all cruising conditions, anchoring and docking, watch keeping, tenders and sports gear, and related duties.  The Engineer will help keep the exterior of the boat in a clean and organized fashion, and will help with inside duties, as requested.  Engineer must be proficient in the handling of all tenders and support craft, dive operations, and other activities in which guests participate.  Finally, the Engineer should be able to step in to temporarily run the boat in the event Captain is unable to do so for any reason.

Stewardess:

Stewardess must have completed a STCW Basic Safety Training course, or equivalent.  Stew must have appropriate experience to assist Captain in safely operating the boat, supporting watches while passage-making, assistance anchoring and docking, help with tenders and sports gear, and related duties.

Stewardess is responsible for the general maintenance and cleaning of the interior of the boat, and all laundry services.  Stew will assist Chef in meal preparation and serving, and in other responsibilities as requested by Captain.
