Position Overview

Brumley Maritime is seeking an experienced, professional, and service-oriented Captain to oversee the safe, efficient, and exceptional operation of our charter yacht “Checked Out”. CHECKED OUT is a 65’ luxury yacht originally built in 2004 by Pacific Mariner and based in Seattle that offers private yacht charters. This role is responsible not only for the day-to-day operation and presentation of the vessel, but also for helping coordinate the yacht's schedule, bookings, outings, and overall charter experience.

The ideal candidate is a confident leader who takes pride in maintaining a high standard of professionalism and presentation, enjoys working with guests, and is excited to play an active role in the growth and promotion of Brumley Maritime's charter business.

This is an opportunity for a Captain who wants to be more than a vessel operator and have a meaningful role in building a premium charter experience and growing the business.

Key Responsibilities

Vessel Operations & Safety

  • Serve as the primary Captain and operator of the yacht.
  • Maintain the highest standards of safety, navigation, and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct appropriate pre-trip and post-trip inspections and ensure the vessel is properly prepared for each outing.
  • Monitor and maintain the vessel's systems, equipment, safety gear, and overall condition.
  • Identify maintenance or repair needs and coordinate with appropriate vendors and service providers.
  • Maintain accurate vessel logs, maintenance records, and other required documentation.
  • Ensure all operations are conducted in accordance with applicable maritime laws, regulations, and company policies.

Charter & Schedule Management

  • Help manage the yacht's calendar, including charter bookings, private outings, events, and other scheduled activities.
  • Coordinate trip details, timing, destinations, guest needs, and logistics.
  • Work closely with management and clients to ensure each outing is properly planned and executed.
  • Help maximize vessel availability and scheduling efficiency while maintaining a high-quality guest experience.
  • Communicate proactively regarding weather, scheduling changes, maintenance needs, and other issues that may affect an outing.

Guest Experience & Presentation

  • Provide a professional, welcoming, and memorable experience for every guest.
  • Maintain the yacht to a consistently high standard of cleanliness, organization, appearance, and presentation.
  • Ensure the vessel is guest-ready before every charter.
  • Anticipate guest needs and provide a high level of service while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Represent Brumley Maritime with professionalism, discretion, and a hospitality-focused mindset.

Business Development & Promotion

  • Actively support the growth of Brumley Maritime's charter yacht business.
  • Help identify opportunities to increase bookings, repeat business, referrals, and partnerships.
  • Represent Brumley Maritime at events, outings, networking opportunities, and promotional activities as appropriate.
  • Provide feedback and ideas regarding charter packages, destinations, guest experiences, and business opportunities.
  • Help create a positive reputation for Brumley Maritime through exceptional service and professionalism.
  • Work collaboratively with management on initiatives designed to increase awareness and revenue for the charter business.

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain open and timely communication with company leadership.
  • Assist with provisioning, preparation, and coordination for trips as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with vendors, crew, guests, and other business partners.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding guests, company operations, and business matters.
  • Perform other duties related to yacht operations and charter services as reasonably assigned.

Qualifications

  • Valid U.S. Coast Guard Captain's license appropriate for the vessel and intended operations.
  • Demonstrated professional experience operating and maintaining vessels of similar size and type.
  • Strong knowledge of boating safety, navigation, vessel operations, and applicable maritime regulations.
  • Clean and professional operating record.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and scheduling abilities.
  • Customer-service or hospitality experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to interact professionally and confidently with a wide range of guests.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining a vessel to a high standard.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, evenings, and varying schedules based on charter bookings and business needs.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining strong communication with company leadership.
  • Business-minded attitude with an interest in helping grow a charter operation.

What We're Looking For

The right person for this position is someone who understands that being a great Captain involves more than safely operating a boat. You are the face of Brumley Maritime when guests step aboard.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Safety-focused and highly responsible.

  • Flexible and comfortable with a schedule that changes based on bookings and events.
  • Team-oriented and able to work effectively with company leadership, vendors, guests, and other partners.
