Position:

Salary:
£50,000 Per Year
Location:

Job posted:
August 21, 2026

We are working with an established private household in Virginia Water, Surrey, to help them hire a full-time, permanent Housekeeper. The estate comprises four large properties, maintained to a consistently high standard throughout the year, and this is an excellent opportunity for someone seeking a genuine long-term position within a friendly and settled household team.

The family are typically in residence between April and October, which is the busier period of the year, while the estate is generally unoccupied from October to April. As a result, the role offers a genuinely varied working environment across the seasons: quieter months are focused on housekeeping projects, inventories, and organisation around scheduled contractor and maintenance works, while the in-residence period involves closer, more hands-on support of the family and household on a rota basis. There is scope for the successful candidate to take on additional responsibility and progress as the estate continues to grow and develop.

A full driving licence is essential for this role. The household is looking to welcome someone no later than the beginning of October 2026, with interviews and trials taking place throughout September 2026.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain four large properties across the estate to an exceptionally high standard
  • Carry out all general housekeeping duties under the direction of the Head Housekeeper
  • Respond efficiently and professionally to family requests when the family are in residence
  • Work closely with and support the Head Housekeeper
  • Provide cover for the Head Housekeeper when required during holidays, absence, and days off
  • Work as part of a larger household team during busy periods, alongside departments including Butlers, Kitchen, and other estate staff
  • Support and work alongside temporary housekeeping staff during periods of high occupancy
  • Complete project-based work during quieter periods, including inventories, organisation, and reorganisation of household areas
  • Work effectively around contractors, maintenance teams, and ongoing estate projects
  • Assist with housekeeping at alternative family properties as required
  • Provide occasional assistance with the family's animals when required
  • Work collaboratively with travelling household staff and teams based at the family's other properties
  • Remain flexible and willing to take on additional responsibilities as the household and estate continue to develop

Ideal Candidate

  • Genuinely committed to a long-term role and becoming a valued member of the household team
  • Keen to take on additional responsibility and progress within their career as the estate develops
  • Positive, reliable, and respectful, with a calm and steady approach
  • English as a first language preferred, in line with the family's preference
  • Comfortable working within a large team during busy periods and a smaller team during quieter months
  • Full driving licence essential
  • Willing to work over the Christmas and New Year period, should the family choose to be in residence
  • Flexible, adaptable, and happy to work seasonal and rota-based hours as required

Package

  • Working schedule:
    • October–April: Monday to Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm
    • April–October: 5 days per week on a rota (Monday to Sunday), 9-hour shifts scheduled between approximately 7:00am–9:00pm
  • Holiday: 28 days paid holiday per year
  • Start date: no later than the beginning of October 2026
  • Salary: £50,000 gross per annum, plus paid overtime
