Private Household — The Household & Role
The Household
This is a warm, informal family home with a busy and varied routine. The household is looking for someone who can take full ownership of the day-to-day running of the home — someone proactive who notices what needs doing and gets on with it, rather than waiting to be directed.
The household is not always occupied by everyone at the same time. One family member spends extended periods in Europe competing in motorsport, while two children are cared for on a shared arrangement. As a result, the number of people at home varies from week to week, and meal planning, shopping and household organisation need to adapt accordingly.
Some weeks will naturally be lighter and others a little busier. The role generally allows for approximately an hour or two of flexibility either side of the standard working day, balancing out over the month. This is not an on-call position and there is no weekend work. Flexibility is appreciated, with as much notice as possible provided for any changes.
The home environment is relaxed and positive. This is a family home rather than a formal service environment, and the ideal person will be approachable, easy to have around and genuinely take pride in doing their job well.
Core Responsibilities
Household Management
• Light housekeeping, maintaining day-to-day tidiness and order
• Seasonal deep cleaning and spring cleaning of the home
• Organising and maintaining closets, storage areas and the garage as an ongoing responsibility
• Laundry and ironing, including appropriate care of quality clothing
• Supervising and coordinating cleaners who attend twice weekly, including schedules, access, task lists and quality control
• Organising tradespeople and household repairs, including obtaining quotes, arranging access and following through to completion
• Coordinating vehicle upkeep, including servicing, registration, cleaning and ensuring vehicles remain road-ready

Kitchen & Food
• Planning and preparing family dinners on most weeknights, cooking to a genuinely high standard
• Preparing meals in line with specific macronutrient targets
• Working from separately provided dietary preferences, nutritional targets and sample menus
• Weekly menu planning based on who is actually at home
• Grocery shopping and management of the pantry, fridge and freezer
Administration & Reporting
• Monthly reconciliation of household expenses, with receipts retained and appropriately coded
• Providing a brief written weekly update covering completed tasks, outstanding matters and anything requiring a decision
• Managing general household administration and ensuring tasks continue to move forward without requiring constant direction
Coordination & Errands
• Managing day-to-day errands including dry cleaning, returns, pharmacy visits, household supplies and deliveries
• Assisting with family events and celebrations from initial planning through to execution
The Person
The most important quality for this role is good judgement.
Much of the position will be carried out independently, so the successful candidate needs to be able to recognise what needs doing, prioritise effectively and make sensible decisions without needing to check every detail. They should also be comfortable taking ownership when something goes wrong and communicating promptly when an issue requires attention or a decision.
Essential
• Demonstrable experience working in a private household, or within high-end hospitality, hotel or service environments where high standards and discretion were expected
• A confident and capable cook who can consistently produce good-quality food
• Highly organised, self-directed and able to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously
• Discreet, trustworthy and respectful of the privacy of the household
• Current, unrestricted Australian driver's licence and clean driving record
• Unrestricted right to work in Australia
• National Police Check and current NSW Working With Children Check, both required prior to commencement
• Physically fit and comfortable being active and on your feet for most of the working day
• A solid understanding of nutrition, including macronutrients, with the ability to prepare meals accurately to specific nutritional targets
Preferred
• Previous formal household management experience, although strong service experience in another setting will also be considered
• Culinary training or an equivalent professional kitchen background
• Experience working within a family household with children
• Experience coordinating household staff, cleaners, tradespeople or contractors
• Comfortable using basic household technology, spreadsheets and expense-tracking systems
• Comfortable adopting digital tools that improve efficiency, including expense tracking, meal and nutrition apps and AI assistants for drafting and planning, used sensibly and in accordance with agreed household guidelines
