Description
- We currently have an opening for a full time live aboard Deckhand/Stewardess position on a 42m Amels motor yacht, which is currently based in West Palm Beach, Florida.
- The yacht is registered in the Cayman Islands and is privately owned by an American family, who have owned the vessel for more than 25 years.
- 42m classic motor yacht which has been fully rebuilt and was recommissioned in November 2019.
- Privately run vessel with a crew of 9, 6 of which are rotational positions.
- West Palm Beach (Rybovich) based for autumn, winter, and spring.
- Occasional winter Bahamas trips.
- Newport, RI based for summer - historically, low guest usage.
- We are looking for female candidates (due to cabin arrangement), who have experience, are mature & professional, able to work under instruction and can communicate with high profile employers with confidence.
- When working as part of the yacht's deck department, the main job responsibility is to work closely as part of a small team of 3, assist the Bosun and Chief Officer with deck maintenance, and normal everyday deck duties. We aim to provide the highest standards in line with the owners and guests expectations when they are onboard and that should be reflected by the new candidate.
- When working as part of the yacht's interior department, the main job responsibility is to work closely as part of a small team of 3, assist the Second Stewardess and Chief Stew with guest service, interior maintenance, and normal everyday interior duties. We aim to provide the highest standards of guest service in line with the owners and guests expectations when they are onboard and that should be reflected by the new candidate.
- All candidates are subject to a background check and may be subject to a drugs test.
- The candidates would be joining a team led by a very experienced Captain and a program that has been running for almost thirty years.
- Although we do not have a particularly exciting cruising program there are many benefits from having a great owner, who looks after the crew well and a schedule, which allows for planning one's personal life around work.
- Overall, the candidate needs to be cheerful, hardworking with a positive attitude that wants to and enjoys a family / team environment
- As a minimum, the candidate should have, a green card or be a US citizen. Must have valid STCW and ENG1 certificates. No visible tattoos, healthy in stature and be a non-smoker.
- Experience in tender driving would be a bonus.
- We aim to fill the position ASAP for the right candidate. The current deck/stew wishes to further her career after 4.5 years onboard.
The owner is very time and service orientated, so the candidate must be:
- Refined, confident, respectful, and professional.
- An excellent judge of timing and support to the interior team when acting as stewardess.
- Adaptable to the service procedures and style we already have in place.
- Discreet in their general service and during tenders runs with guests, engage politely when appropriate, but not be over familiar or personal.
Interviewing process:
- CV check and calling of references.
- Remote video or phone interviews may be conducted with the captain, the rotational chief stewardess and the owner's representative.
- Face to face interview with a representative of the yacht, pending your location and number of candidates, the representative may travel to conduct a face to face interview.
- Once the above has been completed, an offer will be made to the successful candidate.
General contract points to be aware of:
- Full time contract, liveaboard contract.
- However, we do our best to offer 2 days off per week through the year (non-contractual).
- 7-day notice period during the 3-month trial period with a review and then one month notice period moving forward.
- One return flight per year to their repatriation port.
- 42 days holiday.
- Salary DOE.
- US federal taxes are at the owner's expense. Gross amount to be reflected in the contract.
- Medical cover for 12 months of the year.
- Non contractual 13-month bonus, normally paid by way of 50% in April and 50% in October.
- Training allowance with a refund policy in place.
- Shared cabin with the female Second Stewardess.
Certificates and Qualifications:
A valid STCW Basic Safety Training certificate is required from all applicants. Please sign up for an STCW course and obtain the certificate if you don't have it yet.
