We are delighted to be working with a private family based in the beautiful Hampshire countryside, close to Petersfield, to assist in hiring a full-time Domestic Couple. This is a fantastic opportunity for a professional, well-matched couple to take full ownership of a charming rural property set within the South Downs, ensuring it is maintained and run to an exceptional standard throughout the family’s time in residence.
The property serves primarily as a weekend and holiday retreat for a family of two adults; all four children are now away from home, either at boarding school, university, or based in London. The couple will manage all aspects of the household between them – including cleaning, laundry, cooking, and day-to-day logistics – and will also be responsible for sourcing and managing any supplementary staff required for events. Responsibilities will naturally divide according to each person’s strengths, though both should be comfortable turning their hand to any task as required. The role may also involve occasional support at the family’s London base.
Live-in accommodation is available for the right couple, with a rental property arranged locally in the surrounding area. At least one competent driver is essential, as logistics and local travel form an integral part of the role. The family also has a much-loved Labrador, and on very rare occasions the couple may be asked to take him to veterinary appointments.
Please note: this role involves weekends. Your days off will be mid-week.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the cleanliness and presentation of an eight to nine-bedroom country house to an impeccable standard, with all cleaning managed entirely between the couple
- Manage all laundry, ironing, and garment care to an impeccable standard
- Plan and prepare all meals during family visits, catering for both everyday dining and larger gatherings of up to fourteen guests
- Lay the table, assist with service, and ensure the home is always guest-ready
- Run personal errands for the family, including local driving and logistics support
- Arrange and coordinate professional services including pool maintenance, ice machine servicing, air conditioning, and other contractors
- Assist with bringing outdoor furniture in and out seasonally
- Carry out light handyman tasks and troubleshoot day-to-day maintenance issues
- Assist with logistics including booking hire vehicles, transporting furniture or belongings to London, and collecting family members
- Ensure all household supplies, provisions, and pantry stock are well-maintained and organised
- Source, brief, and manage supplementary staff for occasional events and larger gatherings
- Assist with very occasional veterinary appointments for the family’s Labrador
- Maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times
Ideal Couple
- Previous experience working together as a couple within a private household, luxury chalet or yacht
- Between you, covering all aspects of housekeeping, laundry, cooking, and household logistics to a high standard
- Strong culinary skills – confident preparing family meals as well as more formal dining for larger groups
- At least one competent driver with a full, clean UK driving license
- Proactive, resourceful, and able to take initiative without direction
- Well-presented, discreet, and professional at all times
- Flexible and adaptable, with a positive and willing attitude
- Comfortable working as a self-sufficient team without external support
- A genuine appreciation for the countryside and a warm, friendly disposition
- Comfortable around dogs
