Head Housekeeper/Cook - New York

We are working with a private client in New York to assist with the appointment of an experienced Head Housekeeper/Cook for their family townhouse on the Upper East Side. This is a long-term role supporting a single gentleman within a relaxed, family-oriented townhouse environment, where warmth, flexibility, and trust are key. This is a long-term position, seeking a highly organised and personable professional to oversee the smooth day-to-day running of the home.

The role is to oversee the smooth running of the household including managing external cleaning services and ensuring consistently high standards throughout the property. In addition, the successful candidate will be a passionate cook, confident in preparing healthy, home-style meals, with a strong understanding of and enthusiasm for keto-focused dietary requirements.

The household environment is informal and welcoming. The family has 2 older children who are largely away at school and 2 teenage children who spend half their time at the residence. The role requires a huge amount of flexibility in line with the Principal’s travel schedule, your week will revolve around when he is away or in residence however you will have notice as his schedule is planned in advance. Travel throughout the year will be required including the summer spend in the Hamptons.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the daily management and presentation of a 6,000 sq ft family townhouse
• Supervise external cleaning services to ensure consistently high standards
• Carry out light hands-on duties as required, while remaining primarily supervisory
• Prepare healthy, home-style meals aligned with a keto dietary lifestyle
• Plan simple, nutritious menus with a focus on fresh, high-quality ingredients
• Manage household supplies, grocery shopping, and basic errands
• Coordinate with contractors, maintenance teams, and service providers
• Liaise with the household driver and other support staff as required
• Assist with the care of a large, friendly dog, including feeding and walking when needed
• Run personal errands for the Principal as required
• Travel with the family when required
• Work flexibly across a five-day working week, with varying patterns depending on travel
• Provide a calm, professional, and welcoming presence within the household
• Maintain strict discretion and confidentiality at all times

Ideal Candidate

• Experienced head housekeeper or senior housekeeper with supervisory experience
• Passionate cook with proven confidence in preparing keto and health-conscious meals
• Comfortable managing cleaning teams
• Flexible and adaptable, happy with changing schedules and travel
• Fluent English speaker with excellent communication skills
• Warm, organised, and professional in manner
• Comfortable and confident around large-breed dogs
• Able to work independently and take ownership of the role
• Reliable, discreet, and trustworthy

Package

• Working schedule: 5 days per week, flexible patterns
• Live-out position, although there is a staff bedroom and ensuite in the property, which can be used throughout the week if more convenient than travelling home after dinner service
