Engineer requirements for 43 metre private yacht.
We are a 43m private yacht with a total of seven crew. The yacht has been kept to a high standard with manuals, spares, and SOPs for most equipment on board. Logbooks are a necessary requirement and must be kept up to date.
We are presently in a shipyard about to undergo our 20-year ABS survey. Last July we passed our ABS and Cayman Islands survey with two items to replace: a second fire-fighting suit and two smoke flares.
We have up to 12 guests on board on occasion, but usually no more than four guests on long trips. Our trips are from Fort Lauderdale to Maine and back over a seven-month period. Every four years we visit Europe. We also cover the Caribbean and Bahamas. This year we're planning on going to the Great Lakes. Our guests are low key but require all equipment on board to function at all times.
The yacht is classed ABS and registered with the Cayman Islands. Our basic itinerary: based in West Palm Beach or Fort Lauderdale from January to May, usually a shipyard period. Christmas and New Year are usually in the Bahamas with guests on board. There has been very low turnover in crew over the years.
Requirements and information for an engineer:
- Preference: South African, Australian, New Zealand, British, or American.
- Under 42 years of age, unless reasonably slim and fit.
- Engineers should have at least AEC 1 & 2, and a powerboat or skipper's licence.
- Availability as soon as possible is preferred.
- There is a three-month probation period before full GeoBlue insurance coverage is provided. In the first three months they will be covered for accidents on condition there were no drugs, alcohol, or undisclosed medical issues involved.
- Vacation: 34 days per year as per anniversary of joining the vessel.
- The engineer will have their own cabin on board. The vessel is in top-notch condition and maintenance requirements have been strictly adhered to. We are presently in a shipyard in Fort Lauderdale until April 2026.
Depending on experience and qualifications, salary can be negotiated.
Certificates and Qualifications:
A valid STCW Basic Safety Training certificate is required from all applicants. Please sign up for an STCW course and obtain the certificate if you don't have it yet.
