Private Tutor / Governess | Global Travel / Worldwide Yacht | Salary DOE

Overview

On behalf of our client, we are seeking an exceptional and highly experienced Live-in Private Tutor / Governess to provide world-class education and enrichment for a bright, motivated 7 year old boy. The position is a unique opportunity to teach whilst travelling the world on a private yacht, creating an immersive and inspiring educational experience.

The boy is currently enrolled in an online British curriculum school, and the Private Tutor / Governess will be required to review, supplement and extend this curriculum – ensuring he is sufficiently challenged and engaged.

He is especially strong in mathematics and science and has a keen interest in music, making piano tuition highly desirable.

Job duties
Responsibilities of the Private Tutor / Governess for 7 year old boy include:

Academic Tuition

  • Deliver high-quality tuition across the British curriculum (with emphasis on Year 4 and above)
  • Provide enrichment activities beyond the curriculum to ensure challenge and progression drawing upon the culture and history of the countries visited throughout the year
  • Adapt teaching methods to suit individual learning style and strengths

Curriculum Enrichment and Immersive Learning

  • Incorporate elements of geography, history, and culture based on the yacht’s global itinerary
  • Design project-based learning opportunities tied to real-world experiences in the destinations visited
  • Foster critical thinking, creativity, and global awareness

Specialised Subjects

  • Provide piano instruction (and ideally general music appreciation) alongside academic teaching
  • Support child’s strengths in STEM subjects with engaging experiments and problem-solving exercises

Pastoral & Developmental Support

  • Encourage independence, curiosity and a love of learning
  • Build a supportive, respectful and stimulating environment
  • Guide child in organisation, study skills and self motivation

Collaboration & Planning

  • Liaise with the online school, parents, and yacht crew as needed
  • Maintain detailed records of the child’s progress and set clear goals
  • Be available for childcare a couple of evenings a week
  • Flexibly adjust schedules around travel, family life and cultural opportunities

This is a perfect opportunity for an experienced and adventurous educator who wants to combine academic excellence with global travel, creating unforgettable educational journeys for a truly remarkable child.

Candidates must be/have:
Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years teaching experience, ideally spanning both schools and private tutoring
  • Strong knowledge of the British curriculum, particularly Years 4–7
  • Ability to create cross learning across subjects – highly desirable
  • Proven ability to challenge academically strong children
  • Piano teaching ability – desirable but not essential

Personal Qualities

  • Highly organised, adaptable and creative in lesson design
  • Warm, engaging manner with children; able to inspire curiosity and enthusiasm
  • Discreet, professional, and trustworthy
  • Sociable yet comfortable with independence; enjoying both community and solitude
  • Flexible, resilient, and capable of thriving in a dynamic, travel-based lifestyle
