The AEC1 is the industry-standard qualification for small vessel engineers and is often the minimum requirement for working as a junior or sole engineer on yachts under 300GT. It covers the essential knowledge and hands-on skills needed for safe operation and maintenance of marine diesel engines and auxiliary systems.

Topics include:

• Diesel engine operation and components (2-stroke & 4-stroke)
• Auxiliary systems, propulsion, and routine maintenance
• Basic electrics, fault finding, and tool use
• Safety procedures, pollution prevention, and emergency response

This course is delivered at our training centre in Phuket under IYT STCW 2010 approval.

Entry Requirements

Minimum age: 18 years
English language proficiency (sufficient to follow technical instruction)
No prior engineering experience required — AEC1 is an entry-level course
STCW Basic Safety Training is recommended (not mandatory) if the candidate intends to work at sea
