This online SSO course has been written by MCA Certified Ship Security & Company Security Officers, and covers the six Learning Outcomes required under the knowledge, Understanding & Proficiency (KUP) of the Merchant Navy Training Board (MNTB) in accordance with the ISPS Code.

Duration (Modules 1 to 3):

Approximately 21 hours depending on reading speed divided into the three modules. You can go in and out of the course as often as you like as the course will record where you last left off. However, you must complete the final assessment in one sitting or it will reset.
Who Should Attend?

Course Assessment:

Candidates are assessed in Module 3 which consists of an online test made up of 60 randomised multi-choice or true or false answer questions and text matching exercises along with a short essay requirement. Candidates must achieve a pass mark of 70% to successfully pass this course.

Mandatory Course Prerequisites:

A minimum of twelve months seagoing service on vessels over 80 gross tonnage or 24 meters is required to qualify for an STCW compliant Ship Security Officer Certificate. Any SSO Candidates without the required pre-course experience will receive an endorsed certificate of Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD) which can be upgraded to an SSO qualification free of charge once evidence is obtained that the minimum sea going requirement has been reached.
